'a translation committee of experienced anointed Christians was organized to produce the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures in English.' (Watchtower, October 15, 1997, How the Bible Came to Us, p 11-12).This is the same claim that Joseph Smith made when he translated the Book of Mormon. So not only do JW's believe that the Watchtower is inspired, they believe the NWT is translated by inspiration. By 'anointed', they mean inspired by the Holy Spirit. By experienced, they mean that they had been JW's for a long time and would tow the party line. If you notice the very significant Watchtower quote below, they do not claim the translators knew Greek and Hebrew, only that they were 'experienced' and 'anointed'. Like the Mormon's Bible, the NWT was translated with help of the Holy Spirit: (inspiration) ' (Julius Mantey in discussion with Walter Martin)

' (Professor of New Testament Language and Literature) Metzger, professor of New Testament at Princeton University, calls the NWT 'a frightful mistranslation ,' ' Erroneous ' and ' pernicious ' ' reprehensible ' 'If the Jehovah's Witnesses take this translation seriously, they are polytheists.
